Roadways

Over three quarters of all goods in Europe are transported by road, and about 25% of all transnational trucking companies in Europe are Dutch owned. The Dutch have a strong reputation for reliability. And, due to free competition and minimal government intervention, they are able to offer the best price/quality transport and distribution services in Europe.

The Netherlands also offers roads that are among the safest in Europe, according to a 2008 study by the European Association for Traffic Safety. What's more, the Institute for Mobility Research called the Netherlands' road infrastructure "the benchmark" by a wide margin for density of road infrastructure and motorways.

Of the Netherlands' 78,029-mile road system, about 1,389 miles are limited-access, high-speed motorways offering direct connections to contiguous countries.  There are no tolls, speed limits range from 50 to 75 mph, and 95% of Europe can be reached by truck in 24 hours. And in July of 2008, the Dutch government agreed not to increase road taxes or taxes on diesel fuel before 2011, both in an effort to ease the burden on truckers.  Also, total transport tariffs to and from the Netherlands tend to be lower than in other European countries.
