Regional Profiles

The Netherlands is divided in twelve administrative regions or provinces. These are the provinces of: Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland, Flevoland, Utrecht, North Holland, South Holland, Zeeland, North Brabant and Limburg.

Northern Netherlands: provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe

The Northern Netherlands is centrally located in between the economic centers of the Netherlands (Randstad), Germany (Hamburg and Ruhr) and the Baltic Rim. The area is known for its industrial focus, whereas the services sector is growing rapidly.

East Netherlands: provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel

East Netherlands is located strategically between two key European economies: the Dutch Randstad and the German Ruhr Area. Forming a golden triangle of top-quality business, research and education in food, health and technology, the region is driving innovation in interfaces emerging between the three areas.

Province of Flevoland

One of the very few man-made regions in the world. We now live and work on what, just a few decades ago, used to be the bottom of the sea. After reclaiming the land, Flevoland has become one of the fastest expanding economies in The Netherlands. Here there is space for growth and development. Also Flevoland already houses a number of world-class R&D facilities, a network of organizations for support and advice and has superb infrastructural connections by road, rail and air.

Province of Utrecht

North Holland North

The region Holland North is located 35 km from Amsterdam and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The region has an excellent quality of life. Well-known for shopping, sports and culture. House prices are more than reasonable and plenty of leisure is nearby. The area is rich in a well-educated, skilled and motivated workforce.

WestHolland is located in the western part of the Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, and includes the cities of The Hague, Leiden, Delft, Zoetermeer and Lansingerland. It is home to the National Government and its administration.

City of Rotterdam

Rotterdam, in the province of South Holland, is a vibrant international city with a longstanding trading spirit and Europe’s largest port Rotterdam’s central location provides access to the 220 million consumers who live within a radius of 600 miles of the city as well as the 500 million people throughout the whole of Europe.

Province of Zeeland

Zeeland is located in the Southwest of the Netherlands, bordering Belgium. This area is known for its strategic location between the world ports Rotterdam and Antwerp, its ports, excellent recreational facilities and high quality of life.

Province of North Brabant

Brabant is located in the southern Netherlands, bordering Belgium. It is an highly industrialized region and one of the most knowledge intensive areas in Europe. 

Province of Limburg

Limburg is the most southern province of the Netherlands bordering Germany and Belgium. Limburg is located between the main metropolitan areas of Europe: Randstad Holland and Brussels to the west and the German Rhine-Ruhr area to the east. Limburg is renowned for its logistics expertise, industrial focus, multilingual labour force.
