Railways

The Netherlands' rail system has experienced continuous growth in recent years with annual freight volume reaching 45.5 million metric tons. It has direct connections to inland container terminals and links to destinations across the EU, Scandinavia and the Middle East. Most rail services operate from the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, with 150 shuttles departing Rotterdam alone each week. In addition to signal improvements to its existing passenger and freight network through 2010, the Netherlands' High Speed Line is under construction. Further, the Betuweroute, a new fully dedicated freight system, links Rotterdam and the German border. Move your mouse over the map to learn more.
