The region is situated between several international airports (Amsterdam, Hamburg, Düsseldorf). The region has fast, direct connections by road, by rail and via (inland) waterways to Rotterdam, to Northern Germany and the Ruhr area, and to the Baltic and Scandinavian hinterland.
