About this issue
Focus on Nutrition & Health

Nutrition plays an important role in the promotion and maintenance of good health throughout our life span and is, therefore, crucial for healthy ageing. Food not only affects growth and development during childhood and the maintenance of physiological processes, but also affects the risk of developing various chronic diseases, like obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and dementia.

Raising awareness and interest in the health benefits of foods requires an effective communications strategy, convincing scientific evidence, and great tasting products. The Netherlands has a lot to offer in this respect. The challenging research area “Nutrition & Health” is being actively explored by Dutch academia, well-recognized institutes, and companies, often in collaborative, public/private partnerships. Some examples of the Dutch initiatives are presented in this newsletter; we hope they will lead you to explore your innovation plans and business opportunities within a Dutch context.
